Innocent Driver Killed After Warren Police Chase Ends in Crash, Four Teens Arrested

WARREN, MICHIGAN – A 48-year-old Detroit man is dead after a vehicle fleeing Warren police crashed into his car at the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Schoenherr Road early Thursday morning, according to the Warren Police Department.

Police said officers attempted to stop a silver Dodge Ram around 1:58 a.m. near Fairfield and Georgiana after spotting multiple occupants inside the truck wearing ski masks in the neighborhood. The truck fled the scene, heading south on Schoenherr toward 8 Mile Road as officers pursued.

Red Light Run Ends in Fatal Crash

Investigators say the fleeing Dodge ran a red light at the intersection and slammed into another vehicle that was traveling westbound on 8 Mile Road. The driver of that car had no connection to the pursuit. Following the crash, all five occupants of the Dodge fled the scene on foot.

Officers were able to track down and arrest four of the five suspects, all of whom are juveniles. A fifth suspect remains outstanding as the investigation continues.

Victim Dies at Hospital, Suspects Linked to String of Vehicle Thefts

The driver of the vehicle that was struck was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police said the suspects in custody are believed to be connected to at least 15 vehicle thefts and attempted thefts reported across Warren over the previous 48 hours.

The crash remains under investigation by the Warren Police Department Detective Bureau and the Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
